User Types in SAP

There are five type of users in SAP:

1- Dialog User (A) – Individual System Access (Personalized)
  • Logon with SAP GUI is possible. Therefore the user is interaction-capable with GUI. 
  • Expired or initial passwords are checked.
  • Users have options to change their passwords
  • Multiple logon is possible but we can restrict by parameters.
  • Ex- End Users, Supports User etc. 
2 - Service User (S) – Shared System Access (Anonymous)
  • Logon with SAP GUI is possible.
  • Only user Administrator can change the password.
  • Multiple logon is permitted.
  • The password cannot be initial or expired. 
  • Ex- Fire Fighter Id. 
3 - System User (B) – System Dependent and System Internal Operations
  • Logon with SAP GUI is not possible. 
  • The password cannot be initial or expired. 
  • Only Administrator can change their passwords.
  • It is used to communicate within SAP System. 
  • Ex- Internal RFCs, Background Processing, External RFCs (TMS, ALE, CUA) 
4 - Communication User (C) – System External operations
  • Logon with SAP GUI is not possible. 
  • It is also one type of Background user and communicates between Systems.
  • Ex – External RFCs 
5 - Reference User (L) – Authorization Enhancement
  • No dialog logon is possible.
  • It is used to providing extra privilege / additional authorization of a user who is going on vacation or leave to existing users.
  • Ex- Internet User with identical Authorizations.
