SAP HANA Studio is a client tool that we use to interact with an SAP HANA system and manage security. To interact with SAP HANA System, you must add or configure connection in SAP HANA Studio.
There are four important information you will need to make a connection to SAP HANA System.
- The Host Name or IP address of HANA System. Administrator will be able to provide this information.
- The Instance number of your Hana System as each HANA instance has its own unique instance number.
- The Mode - The mode is used to indicate if the SAP HANA instance is set up as a Single Container or Multiple Containers or Tenant database or System database. If you aren’t sure, ask administrator if the database is set up with multiple tenants.
- A user name and password to authenticate with the system.
Connect to SAP HANA
To add a system to SAP HANA Studio, right-click anywhere in the Systems window pane. From the context menu, choose Add System.
Alternatively, you can also click the Add System icon, at the top right of the Systems tab and choose the Add System option.
A window labeled Specify System will now appear. Enter three critical items to connect to an SAP HANA instance—Host Name, Instance Number, and Mode—and click Next.
Now, the Connection Properties window will appear. There are two connection options.
Choose Authentication by current operating system user if your administrator has configured Windows Active Directory Kerberos authentication.
Select the Authentication by database user option to specify a standard database user. You can now enter a User Name and Password.
If you want to store these credentials, select the checkbox next to Store user name and password in secure storage. This will save the password in an encrypted local storage container, and you won’t be asked to provide a password again until the password expires.
If you want to connect using an encrypted Secure Socket Layer (SSL), select the check- box labeled Connect Using SSL
To allow SAP HANA Studio to interact with the SAP start service, check the Enable SAP start service connection box, which will allow SAP HANA Studio to perform functions that require operating system-level access. To ensure that this connection also uses SSL, check the Use HTTPS checkbox
After you click Next, The final window allows you to define any additional Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) connection options. If you want to define additional options, simply type them into the Option field.
There is also an Auto-Reconnect checkbox; select it if you want SAP HANA Studio to automatically reconnect to your SAP HANA system if your connection fails.
If you chose to use SSL to connect, additional SSL options will be available in the SSL Connection area. Use these options to properly connect to your SAP HANA system using SSL.
If you don’t need to configure any additional connection or SSL options, click Finish
If you don’t receive any warnings or errors, you can assume that you have properly connected to your SAP HANA system. You will also see your SAP HANA system listed in the Systems tab.
To properly interact with all security features in the system, this account will need to be configured with the proper privileges.
Cheers!!
